About the document

The combustion of Municipal Solid Waste is listed in the Renewable Energy (Electricity) Act 2000 as being eligible as a renewable energy source. Waste streams contain both renewable and non-renewable components, and therefore, eligible components need to be determined.

These guidelines detail a methodology for determining the eligible renewable components of municipal and commercial wastes for use by electricity generation plants which are utilising waste as a fuel source and want to create renewable energy certificates.
