REC market reports
From time to time the Office of the Renewable Energy Regulator uses the services of appropriately qualified consultants to provide expert information with respect to the administration of the Mandatory Renewable Energy Target (MRET). In some cases the reports are made publicly available like the reports below.
The MRET scheme has been in operation since 1 April 2001, the Office of the Renewable Energy Regulator (ORER) decided to engage independent consultants to undertake a study to review developments in the renewable energy market, their potential impacts on future renewable energy certificates (RECs) prices and the consequent composition of renewable energy sources to be handled by the ORER.
The objectives of the studies are to:
- Review the market for RECs;
- Identify key factors affecting REC prices;
- Update projections of REC prices; and
- Project the likely composition of renewable energy sources under MRET.
The ORER does not guarantee, and accepts no legal liability whatsoever arising from or connected to, the accuracy, reliability, currency or completeness of any material contained in these reports. The material in the report does not necessarily reflect the views of the ORER, or indicate its commitment to a particular outcome or course of action. While the ORER accepts the studies as opinions of these consultants on future REC prices, the ORER recognises there are many other opinions on future REC prices.
2007
The following REC pricing study updates were completed by independent consultants in 2007 prior to the announcement of proposed increase to the MRET target and the release of the report by the task force on emissions trading. The analysis for these reports is based on the legislated 9,500 GWh target.
