About the document
Generators of renewable electricity must be registered under the Act and have their power stations accredited by the Regulator before they can create RECs. The accreditation process will establish if the power station is eligibility to create RECs under the measure and, if applicable, establish a renewable energy baseline for each eligible power station. A power station must be accredited under the measure and generate renewable energy above its baseline before being eligible to create RECs.
Accreditation Process
- The 'Accreditation of power station application' form will be assessed by the ORER.
- The Regulator will inform the primary contact in writing when the application is considered to be a properly made application under the Act.
- An email asking for payment of the accreditation fee will be sent the REC Registry contact.
- Once the accreditation fee is received by the ORER the Regulator will determine matters under section 14 of the Act and either approve or refuse 'Accreditation of power station application' under section 15.
- The primary contact will be informed through a letter from the Regulator indicating whether or not the application has been successful.
Notes to applicants
- Parties seeking to gain accreditation for a power station should complete this form. The accreditation application process commences when a complete application for accreditation is submitted to the Office of the Renewable Energy Regulator (ORER) by a 'Registered Person' (the applicant). This form generally covers all of the information required by the ORER to assess an application for accreditation. However, in some circumstances, you may be contacted to provide additional information during the application process. Incomplete forms will be returned to the applicant to complete.
- Should the 'Application for Accreditation of a Power Station' be approved by the Regulator, section 15B of the Act specifies that the applicant becomes the 'Nominated Person' for the power station. This means that the 'Registered Person' will become the 'Nominated Person' for the purposes of the Act.
- Note that only the 'Nominated Person' is able to create RECs for eligible generation from the power station and that the ORER will only discuss the application for accreditation and other related correspondence with the 'Nominated Person'.
- Applicants should be aware that their name, the address of the power station and the details regarding the source of the renewable energy to be used in the power station, will be listed in a public registry of accreditation applications and a registry of accredited power stations.
- Applicants should refer to the detailed Explanatory Notes - Application for Accreditation to help complete this form.
